Why this matters in Chandigarh
Most of these city pages argue that older people here have nowhere to walk. Chandigarh is the exception. The sectors are green, the paths are flat, the gardens are genuinely used, and a large number of residents over sixty already walk every morning without being told to.
Which means the gap here is a different one. Walking maintains stamina and does very little for balance, joint mobility, grip strength or the reaction time that decides whether a stumble becomes a fall. It does nothing at all for memory. Those need guided, progressive work with a physiotherapist watching, and that is what these sessions are.
January fog and June heat close the walking window at both ends of the year, which the indoor schedule covers as well.
When the whole family emigrated, not just one child
This region does not send one child abroad, it sends families. A son to Canada, then his sister, then two cousins, and within a decade the entire generation below is in Brampton, Melbourne or Birmingham. What makes this different from a child moving to another Indian city is that there is nobody left an hour down the road either. No nephew in the next sector who might drop in on a Sunday.
The houses do not help. Chandigarh sectors are built with space and setbacks, which is pleasant and also means your neighbours are further away and less visible than in an older, denser town.
So a walk in the garden, however good it is for the body, can be an hour spent alongside people rather than with them. A group that meets on fixed days, where the same twenty people talk to each other, is a different thing entirely.
Why families in Chandigarh choose it
What a walk cannot do
Balance, joint mobility, grip strength and memory need targeted work. Physiotherapists and cognitive sessions supply it, three times a week.
Company, not just proximity
A capped group who speak to each other by name, which is a different experience from walking near other people in the same garden.
Sessions in Punjabi or Hindi
Instruction is led in the language the participant is most at ease in, including Punjabi throughout.
Easy to set up from abroad
Children in Canada, the UK or Australia can register on a parents behalf and choose a slot that suits a daytime routine here.
How Vayofit actually runs
The schedule is fixed and the group is small, which is what turns it into a habit rather than a one-off class.

In their own words
Vayofit in Chandigarh: common questions
Is Vayofit available in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula?
Yes. Sessions are live and online, so the whole tricity is covered by the same batches. Participants join from across the Chandigarh sectors as well as Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur.
My father already walks every morning. What does this add?
Walking builds stamina but does little for balance, joint mobility, grip strength or reaction time, which are what prevent falls. It also does nothing for memory. These sessions work on all of those directly, and most participants keep walking as well.
Can the sessions be conducted in Punjabi?
Yes. Facilitators lead in Punjabi, Hindi and English. Mention the preference at registration and we will place the participant accordingly.
We live abroad and want to arrange this for our parents. Which slot should we pick?
Choose whichever of the four daytime slots fits their existing routine rather than yours, since they are the ones attending. The 10:00 am and 3:00 pm slots are the most popular with participants in this region.

How many elderly people are there per batch and time slot?
To ensure the best experience for all participants, we have limited each batch to a maximum of 20 people per time slot. This allows us to provide individual attention and personalized support.
